  • Death, Hell, Darkness, Perish- these and similar words refer to the destiny of sinners after death. It is what all sinners deserve.

Matthew 10:28: “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

  • Heaven, Everlasting Life, Eternal Life– these and similar words refer to the destiny of a person who has been saved. God provides this for those who believe and trust in Jesus as their Savior and Lord. Heaven is the eternal dwelling place of God.

John 14:1-3: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

  • The Cross– an upright wooden post with a crossbeam on which Jesus was crucified; It was an instrument of humiliation, torture, and execution; Jesus spoke of the cross before His death (Matthew 10:38; Mark 10:21; Luke 14:27) as a symbol of the necessity of total commitment, even unto death, for those who would be His disciples. By submitting to the cross Jesus paid the penalty for the sins of the whole world, for those who would trust in Him as their Savior and Lord.
  • Christian and Believer– a person who believes that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. They believe that Jesus was crucified on the cross to pay the penalty for man’s sins so that man would not be eternally separated from

God in Hell. They also believe that God raised Him from the dead, and He sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

  • Unbeliever– a person who does not believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of

the penalty for the sins of man. It also means someone who has not received Jesus as the Lord of their life. It also means any person who refuses to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.

  • Lord– usually this refers to Jesus Christ; Master; the one who possesses Supreme authority; the one to whom service is due on any ground, Matt. 6:24; 24:50; Jesus is the eternal Lord over all humanity, Rom. 14:9
  • Converted, or Conversion– this means to be changed from an unbeliever in Jesus to a believer in Jesus; this is a renewing experience; a spiritual change;
  • Born Again– regeneration; saved; renewed, remade and born of God; to become a new creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

  • Repent– means a thorough turning from oneself to God and to accept His Son, Jesus Christ as his Savior. This may be accompanied with regret or remorse that wrong has been done. This occurs when a person turns radically to God through Jesus Christ. It is an experience where God is recognized as the most important fact of one’s existence. It also means a call to absolute surrender to the purposes of God and to live in this awareness. This radical turning to God is required of every person. *HIBD

When a person realizes they have committed a wrong and he chooses to turn away from the ungodly act or thought.

Matthew 3:1 –2 Repent means doing an about-face—a 180° turn –from the kind of self- centeredness that leads to wrong actions such as lying, cheating, stealing, gossiping, taking revenge, abusing and indulging in sexual immorality. A person who repents, stops rebelling and begins following God’s way of living prescribed in His Word. The first step in turning to God is to admit your sin. Then God will receive you and help you live the way He wants. Remember that only God can get rid of sin. He doesn’t expect us to clean up our lives before we come to Him

Luke 13:3…you will perish, too, unless you repent of your sins and turn to God.

  • Saved– to be converted from an unbeliever in Jesus Christ to a believer in Him; the condition of spiritual and eternal salvation that is given immediately to those who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to trust in Him as their Savior
  • Salvation– The spiritual and eternal freedom granted immediately by God to those who accept His conditions of repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus, Acts 4:12, and on confession of Him as Lord, Rom.10:10; further, salvation is the present experience of God’s power to deliver from sin, Phil. 2:12, where some reference is to the maintenance of peace and harmony. It is also freedom from wrath of God destined to be executed upon the ungodly at the end of this age. (1 Thess 1:10; there is also an inclusive meaning, to sum up all the blessings bestowed by God on men in Christ through the Holy Spirit, 2 Cor 6:2.
  • The Atonement– Generally this refers to the punishment Jesus suffered in place of the punishment men deserve for their sin: His arrest, His suffering under Pilate and His death on the cross. Through all of this Jesus brought sinners, who are alienated from God by their sins, into a right relationship with God.
  • Grace- comes from God the Father and from Jesus Christ; God’s redeeming mercy; the power to produce conversion and equipping for ministry

A Prayer to Receive Salvation

Once you have read the above to your satisfaction, then pray the following prayer earnestly to the Lord:

Father God, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.

I believe that Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn away from my sin and follow Your Word completely. You said in Your Holy Word, in Romans 10:9, that if I confess with my mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in my heart that You, Father God, raised Him from the dead, I will be saved.

So right now I confess Jesus as Lord, which means I bow my knees before Him and give Him everything I am. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and according to His Word, I know right now I am saved. I know right now I have the life of Jesus Christ dwelling in me. He freely gave me His life, and I give Him all of mine without reservation.

Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to further sin, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself. Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.

Amen! (which means “so be it!”)
